Diary... I loved both worlds equally....

At the young age of seven, my parents took the rest of my family and me to Armenia. My remarkable childhood, and my even more incredible adolescence, were spent in my beloved and unique motherland. At around the age of nine or ten, I entered the magical world of literature. At the age of twelve, I entered into the inviting and comfortable positive world of music. I loved both worlds equally and remain loyal to both until this day. My path in the music world has not been easy. I was forced to overcome many obstacles in order to gain freedom for the simple act of singing. I never became discouraged but instead with courageous and willful efforts, optimistically clung to achieving my life's greatest love of singing.

Diary... What Should I Tell You About Myself?

What should I tell you about myself?

My parents named me Seda, the name that I live with to this day. My birthplace was one of the East's most beautiful cities, Tehran. It is without doubt that the city of Tehran left a permanent mark on me. From my childhood memories, the most clear and unforgettable regarding my birthplace, is an incredibly surreal moment as I stood in front of a now unfamiliar door and watched in amazement and wonderment the sun setting in the faraway horizon. Assuredly, this was my first realization of the miraculous phenomena that is the natural world. Even though I was young, the unbelievable image took my breath away and would not release my attention. I remember that image clearly even this day and am reminded of it when I catch myself looking in the same amazement at other wonders of the natural world.

Diary...

I love the world that surrounds me. I love the sincere and genuinely kind people who fill that world. Most of all, I appreciate and am uplifted by a morning's simple greeting- if it is said with an honest and true caring smile.
In life, each person has his own profession, which is helpful and important in its own right. I believe that each person is gifted with his or her own unique talent in order to be able to carry out that profession successfully. Look around you. Shoemakers, bakers, painters, writers, artists, government officials and those from other professions live side by side. This proves my point that we are all connected. Like everyone else, I live in my home, surrounded by neighbors who each are busy with their own work. What differentiates me from others is that their absence may not always be felt by those they surround. But those same people that surround each neighbor are aware of my absence. When I am home, there is a continuous stream of song and music pouring out of my windows and attempting to escape through the walls. When I am not at home, there is a type of silence with evidence of the lack of something of great importance: music!

Diary Continued.... The Difficulties

I do not mind that I suffered so many difficulties in my attempts to keep the love of music alive. I do not mind that reading those stories and living and learning through their characters has made me more sensitive to, and so easily pained by, life's minor or more subtle details.
If from the stage today, I can elicit feelings in my audience either by my music or my poetry that one can relate to and through which one can derive and situate answers to some of life's questions, then I believe that all my difficulties have been worth it.

As years passed, many things changed in my world. Many people disappeared from my life. Many people suddenly entered into it. My friends changed. My home changed. The one thing that remained constant, the one thing that survived through my many difficulties, is my love for music and literature. In this life that I have the privilege of living, I would never want to exist without music and literature because without them, I would be a completely different person.

"I love song and music. A person's life, without music, is empty and bland. I love especially traditional Armenian songs. I am inspired by the works of the great composers Komitas, Makar Yekmalyan, and Romanos Melikyan.
I love the mystic and rich world of literature. I read with much enthusiasm and love Armenian writers stories. These stories show me my own peoples tortured and blood-tainted pasts."
The writer of these words was a thirteen year old girl named Seda Garibyan.

Meet Seda

Born in Tehran, Iran and raised in Armenia, Seda Garibyan’s passion for poetry and music began at a very young age. Upon graduating high school, Seda began receiving voice lessons from Yerevan Conservatory instructor and soloist, Sergei Danielyan. During this time she began singing for the Yerevan Yeritasardakan Palat’s (Youth Palace) choir. Renowned singer Hovhannes Badalyan complimented her voice as being “Ideal for Armenian Folk Music”, and pioneer to Armenian folk music, Hayrik Muradyan also expressed his high regards concerning her singing. With this advice Seda began singing with Gusan Hamazasp's Folk Group. Following Hamazasp’s, several friends and she formed a band with which she sang for four years. This new group allowed Seda to sing both folk and pop songs accompanied with the modern music instruments. In 1989, Seda moved to the United States, and in 1992 she released her first album, "Nazank”. Having excelled in Armenian music, Seda wanted to expand on her performance of modern and pop music and began studying under the talented Bill Keis and Virginia Sayre.

Seda is actively involved with events not only in her local Los Angeles, but all over the United States. She is available for all kinds of performances including live concerts, lounge events, private parties and weddings. Seda is available solo, with a keyboard player, with a four or five piece band, and specific Armenian Folk instruments can be added as well. Seda regularly works with well known Armenian musicians such as Andranik Mouradian, Sargis Garibian, Yeghishe Manukyan and Norik Mouradyan, to name a few.
